Richard State Wildlife Area is situated just south of the Lake John State Wildlife Area. This wildlife area is typical of the North Platte River, with a meandering stream sparsely vegetated with willows.


Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Richard State Wildlife Area. Restrooms and campsites are available at nearby Lake John.

Best Time To Visit: Richard State Wildlife Area is open year round.

Fees: There are no fees to enter a State Wildlife Refuge. There are fees to obtain fishing and hunting licenses. Please contact the Denver office for further information.

Accessibility: This area has a limited handicap accessibility.

Rules: Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning to use an area for any purpose. Hunting is prohibited within 200 yards of any building.

Directions: To get to Richard State Wildlife Area from Steamboat Springs: go north on Colorado State Highway 14 to Walden: From Walden, go 0.5 miles west on Colorado Highway 14 to County Road 12W., then 13.7 miles west on County Road 12W to the area.
