Puett Reservoir State Wildlife Area

Located between Dolores and Mancos, Puett Reservoir State Wildlife Area is a 300 acre irrigation reservoir sits at the end of a dead-end road surrounded by farms. This is a warm-water fishery managed primarily for walleye and smallmouth bass, but a few northern pikes can be found as well. This lake is subject to extreme water fluctuations and low water levels make it difficult to use.

Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Puett Reservoir State Wildlife Area.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted to visit Puett Reservoir State Wildlife Area.

Best Time To Visit: Puett Reservoir State Wildlife Area is open year round.

Fees: There are no fees to enter a State Wildlife Refuge. There are fees to obtain fishing and hunting licenses. Please contact the Denver office for further information.

Accessibility: This area has a limited handicap accessibility.

Rules: Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning to use an area for any purpose. Access is on an unimproved road through a farmland from the county road. This road can be 4-wheel drive only when wet. Road is rough when dry. Boat access is good when lake is full.

Directions: To get to Puett Reservoir State Wildlife Area from Denver & Cortez: drive west on US-160 to Mancos. This reservoir is located northwest of Mancos. From Mancos, travel 10 miles northwest on State Highway 184, south on County Road 33 for 1 mile, then 1 1/2 miles east on the access trail.
