Pine River Campground and Trailhead are often used as a temporary base camp and parking area for hikers and backpackers entering the wilderness. The campsites accommodate only tents or small RVs.

Facilities: Vault toilets are provided at Pine River Campground.

Reservations: Reservations are not accepted at Pine River Campground.

Best Time To Visit: Pine River Campground is open May through September.

Fees: A camping fee is charged.

Accessibility: This area is not handicap accessible.

Rules: Maximum length of stay is 14 days. This campground is located within the San Juan National Forest; forest regulations apply.

Directions: To get to Pine River Campground from Durango: Pine River Campground is on the east shore of the Vallecito Reservoir. Travel east on US-169 to Bayfield. From Bayfield go north on County Route 501 for 4 miles to Forest Route 603. Go northeast on northeast 5 miles to Forest Route 602. Go north 4 miles to the campground.
