Oak Ridge State Wildlife Area provides over 8,000 acres of fishing and hunting opportunities. Trout fishing is popular at both Lake Avery and on the White River. Lake Avery has a camping area, shaded picnic spots, restrooms, and a boat ramp. White River has good year round fishing for brown and cutthroat trout, and mountain whitefish. Hunting for deer and elk are also popular here.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted to visit Oak Ridge State Wildlife Area.

Best Time To Visit: Oak Ridge State Wildlife Area is open to the public July 15 through November. Since this area is a very important big game winter range, it is closed to the public for the remainder of the year.

Fees: There are no fees to enter this area, but hunting/fishing permits will require a fee.

Accessibility: This area has limited handicap accessibility.

Rules: Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning to use an area for any purpose.

Some areas are restricted to foot & horseback travel.

Directions: To get to Oak Ridge State Wildlife Area from Steamboat Springs: take US_40 to Colorado-14, travel to Meeker. From Meeker travel 6.3 miles east on County Road 8 and look for the DOW sign. A dirt road leads to the western end of the property.
