Best Time To Visit: Meadow Lake Picnic Area is open Memorial Day Weekend through Fall. Fees: A nominal day usage fee may apply. Accessibility: Meadow Lake has a wheelchair accessible fishing pier. Rules: This area is located within the White River National Forest; forest regulations apply. Pets and Animals Pets must be restrained or on a leash at all times while in developed recreation areas. Pets (except guide dogs) are not allowed in swimming areas or sanitary facilities. Saddle or pack animals are only allowed where authorized by posted instructions.Directions: To reach Meadow Lake Picnic Area from Glenwood Springs, travel west on Interstate 70 to State Highway 13. Take State Highway 13 north to Meeker. From Meeker, take State Highway 13 east for 1 mile; turn right onto County Road 8 for 18 miles until guests come to a bridge on the right. Turn right and proceed on this road for 1 1/2 miles to a stop sign, then turn right on the Buford-New Castle Road, winding up the hill and traveling 8 miles to the Hiner Springs sign. Turn left on Forest Road 823 and travel 3 miles to Meadow Lake. To reach Meadow Lake Picnic Area from Steamboat Springs, travel west on U.S. Highway 40 to State Highway 13. Take State Highway 13 south to County Road 8. Turn left onto County Road 8 for 18 miles until guests come to a bridge on the right. Turn right and proceed on this road for 1 1/2 miles to a stop sign, then turn right on the Buford-New Castle Road, winding up the hill and traveling 8 miles to the Hiner Springs sign.
