Lost Lakes Trail begins adjacent to Round Lake. The hiker should head west towards the Lost Lakes Peaks. At mile 0.7, visitors will approach Long Lake, skirt its shore and turn northerly to begin a short steep ascent of a protruding ridge at mile 1. This is the high point of the trail. Again turning west, the trail crosses forests of spruce and fir at arrives at East Lost Lake at mile 1.7.
At mile 3, visitors will pass a small lake, known as the retaining pond. This area may be wet, so take care when crossing the drainage. Continuing in an easterly direction, the trail begins to follow the West Fork of the Williams Fork River, up to the junction of trail 1119, opposite the Blue Slide. Two stream crossings are made, one at mile 4.4 and the other at mile 4.5.
This 6.4 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 10,420 feet and the ending elevation is 9,285 feet.
