Lone Dome State Wildlife Area is located along the Dolores River just below the McPhee Reservoir. This State Wildlife Area is located along the Dolores River just below the McPhee Reservoir. Fishing for rainbows and cutthroats range from fair to excellent depending on the current water levels. Low water flows during the summer months are devastating to the trout population.

Facilities: There are no facilities available at Lone Dome State Wildlife Area.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted to use Lone Dome State Wildlife Area.

Best Time To Visit: Lone Dome State Wildlife Area is open year-round.

Fees: There are no fees to enter a State Wildlife Refuge. There are fees to obtain fishing and hunting licenses. Please contact the Denver office for further information.

Accessibility: This area is not handicap accessible.

Rules: Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning to use an area for any purpose.

Overnight parking is prohibited except in designated areas.

Directions: To reach Lone Dome State Wildlife Area from Cortez, travel 21 miles north on Highway 666 to County Road DD, then 1 mile east to County Road 16, then 3 miles north to access road, then 1.5 miles east to the Bradfield Bridge.
