Rolling hills dominate the landscape of Little Snake State Wildlife Area as gulches provide food, water, shelter & cover for a large population of deer, pronghorn antelope & sage grouse. There is very low precipitation here, less than 10 inches per year. Watering holes for wildlife have been created.


Facilities: Primitive camping is permitted in self-contained vehicles only.

Best Time To Visit: Little Snake State Wildlife Area is open year-round.

Fees: There are no fees to enter this area, but hunting/fishing permits will require a fee.

Accessibility: This area is not handicap accessible.

Rules: There is an electric fence that surrounds much of this wildlife area. Please use caution.

Directions: To reach Little Snake State Wildlife Area from Steamboat Springs, travel west on US Highway 40 to Maybell. From Maybell, travel north on County Road 19 for 17 miles to Red Wash. Turn east on property.
