Lake Irwin State Wildlife Area

Lake Irwin State Wildlife Area is located high in the Gunnison National Forest just west of Crested Butte. The forests are thick with giant spruce and fir. Fishing is popular at this lake.

Facilities: Restrooms, camping, and drinking water are provided at the Forest Service campground at the lake.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted to use Lake Irwin State Wildlife Area.

Best Time To Visit: Lake Irwin State Wildlife Area is open year-round.

Fees: There are no fees to enter a State Wildlife Refuge. There are fees to obtain fishing and hunting licenses. Please contact the Denver office for further information.

Accessibility: This area is not handicap accessible.

Rules: Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning to use an area for any purpose.

Directions: To reach Lake Irwin State Wildlife Area from Crested Butte, travel on Kebler Pass Road(12), continue North to US Forest Service Road 826 1.5 miles to lake.
