Jensen State Wildlife Area is a critical winter range and calving/fawning grounds for both elk and deer. This wildlife area lies within the range of 30,000 head of elk in the White River herd.


Facilities: Jensen State Wildlife Area provides camping in three designated areas located on County Road 30, although they are undeveloped.

Best Time To Visit: Jensen State Wildlife Area is open year-round.

Fees: There are no fees to enter this area, but hunting/fishing permits will require a fee.

Accessibility: This area is not handicap accessible.

Rules: Public access is allowed July 15th through November. The remainder of the year, it is closed to public use to preserve & protect deer & elk wintering, plus fawning & calving areas.

Directions: To reach Jensen State Wildlife Area from Steamboat Springs, travel west on US Highway 40 to State Highway 13. Take State Highway 13 to County Road 30. Turn east into the property.
