Gypsum Ponds State Wildlife Area

Gypsum Ponds State Wildlife Area is located near the river just east of town and were created during the construction of I-70. The local community of Gypsum uses these ponds as a means of teaching their young outdoor enjoyment.

Facilities: There are no facilities provided in Gypsum Ponds State Wildlife Area.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted at Gypsum Ponds State Wildlife Area.

Best Time To Visit: Gypsum Ponds State Wildlife Area is open year-round.

Fees: There are no fees to enter this area, but hunting/fishing permits will require a fee.

Accessibility: This area has a limited handicap accessibility.

Rules: Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning to use an area for any purpose.

Camping is prohibited.
Fires are prohibited.
Fishing for cutthroat, brown & rainbow trout are allowed on the ponds & north side of the river only.
Dogs are prohibited March 15 - June 15 to protect nesting waterfowl.

Directions: To get to Gypsum Ponds State Wildlife Area from Glenwood Springs: Exit I-70 at Gypsum #140, south to first left turn at Trail Gulch Road, east on frontage road about 1/3 mile to parking area at the fence. Trail follows north side of river to ponds about 3/4 mile.
