Groundhog Reservoir State Wildlife Area

Groundhog Reservoir State Wildlife Area is located in a remote area in Dolores County. There are approximately 500 surface acres of water here at an elevation of 9,000 feet. Fishing and wakeless boating are popular here.

Facilities: Groundhog America, a concessionaire, provides camping at Groundhog Reservoir State Wildlife Area. Restrooms are also provided.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted to visit Groundhog Reservoir State Wildlife Area.

Best Time To Visit: Groundhog Reservoir State Wildlife Area is open year-round.

Fees: There are no fees to enter a State Wildlife Refuge. There are fees to obtain fishing and hunting licenses. Please contact the Denver office for further information.

Accessibility: This area has limited handicap accessibility.

Rules: Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning to use an area for any purpose.

Swimming is prohibited.
Only wakeless boating is permitted.

Directions: To get to Groundhog Reservoir State Wildlife Area from Cortez, drive north on CO-184, and turn right on CO-145 to Dolores. From Dolores, go 25 miles north on Forest Service Road 526 to Forest Service Road 533 and then five miles east to the reservoir.
