| Cyclone Trail begins at the site of an old gravel quarry used in building Forest Highway 16. Traversing lower slopes, it crosses open parks and aspen stands. When it meets Rough Creek at mile 1.1, visitors will begin to see lodgepole pine.Continuing in a northwesterly direction, the trail slowly gains elevation for the next 1.8 miles (8,800 feet). At this point, it begins a descent of 240 feet to it's crossing of Cyclone Creek. This stream drains a large meadow that lies to the west, named Cyclone Park. From this point visitors will steadily gain elevation until they reach Cyclone Park trail, 9320' (2768m). The last 2.5 miles will take visitors to trail 1193, just south of the Beaver Flat Tops.This 9.0 mile trail is located within the Medicine Bow/Routt National Forest. The beginning elevation is 9,080 feet and the ending elevation is 8,850 feet. |
