Kawuneeche, the Arapaho word for coyote, was the name given to Coyote Valley Lake Trail the gentle valley of the Upper Colorado River. Elk and moose are sometimes sighted from the one-mile trail, especially during the early morning and early evening hours.

Facilities: Restrooms and picnic tables are provided at Coyote Valley Lake Trail.

Reservations: Reservations are not accepted at Coyote Valley Lake Trail.

Best Time To Visit: Coyote Valley Lake Trail is open year-round.

Fees: There are no fees charged to walk this trail.

Accessibility: This trail is completely accessible.

Rules: A variety of rules apply when hiking in a National Park. Please contact the local Park Ranger for more specific information.

Directions: To get to Coyote Valley Lake Trail from Winter Park: Start out on US-40, turn right on US-34. Stay straight to go onto US-36, travel to the National Park. This trail is located in the west side of the National Park. Travel north on Highway 34 past the Shadow Mountain Lake, past the Grand Lake, and past the Green Mountain Trail. Trail access is marked, and should be on the left.
