Cochetopa State Wildlife Area runs north, straddling the Cochetopa Creek from Dome Lakes to the confluence of Los Pinos Creek. Portions of this State Wildlife Area are wildlife easements on the Coleman Ranch. This is a working ranch with cattle grazing in fields by the creek.

Fish and duck hunting are popular activities here.
