Coal Creek has fairly fast moving water with a few pools. This is good fishing for rainbow and brook trout. Rainbow trout are along the lower end of the creek. brook trout are principally in the upper reaches of the creek. There are many beaver ponds in the upper reaches of Coal Creek.

Facilities: There are no facilities available at Coal Creek. Erickson Campground is nearby.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted to visit Coal Creek.

Best Time To Visit: Coal Creek is open year-round.

Directions: To get to Coal Creek from Crested Creek: Go northeast on Highway 135 to Highway 133 to Paonia. Northeast of Paonia via Highway 133 to Kebler Pass Road (Colorado Road 12) to Forest Service Road 709. Road 709 follows Coal Creek for 8 miles. The Throughline Trail #860 then follows Coal Creek for another 3 miles.
