During earlier times, this area (currently Brown's Park State Wildlife Area) north of the Green River served as a wintering grounds for bands of Ute and Shoshone Indians, as well as outlaws Butch Cassidy and Tom Horn.
Today, this country serves as wintering grounds for herds of elk and deer, as well as a haven for many different species of wildlife. The annual rainfall measures less than 10 inches. The terrain is gentle, with rolling mountains carved by numerous seasonal creeks, washes, and sage-filled basins. The mountains are topped with aspen and pine.
Beaver Creek is a small stream with a string of beaver ponds that have good brook trout fishing. The upper potion of the stream harbors native Colorado River cutthroat trout.
