| Facilities: Brown Lakes State Wildlife Area provides primitive toilets located at each parking area. Camping is prohibited here, but there is a Forest Service campground at the east side of the lower lake. Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted to use Brown Lakes State Wildlife Area. Best Time To Visit: Brown Lakes State Wildlife Area is open year-round. Fees: There are no fees to enter a State Wildlife Refuge. There are fees to obtain fishing and hunting licenses. Please contact the Denver office for further information. Accessibility: This area is not handicap accessible. Rules: Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning to use an area for any purpose. Directions: To reach Brown Lakes State Wildlife Area from Pagosa Springs, travel northeast on US Highway 160 to State Highway 149. On State Highway 149, travel north to Creede. From Creede, west on State Highway 149 for 30 miles, then west 1.5 miles on US Forest Service Road 515 (Hermit Lakes Road) to Brown Lakes. To reach Brown Lakes State Wildlife Area from Ouray, travel north on US Highway 550 to US Highway 50. Take US Highway 50 east to State Highway 149. Travel south on State Highway 149 to US Forest Service Road (Hermit Lakes Road). Take US Forest Service Road to the area. |
