Black Ridge Canyon Wilderness Study Area totals 75,500 acres and features the largest concentration of natural arches in Colorado.
Seven major canyon systems drain into the 26-mile Ruby Canyon segment of the Colorado River just below Grand Junction. The river provides boat access to the mouths of the canyons. This portion of the Colorado River is one of the few easy canoeing segments on the western slope.
In the region there are desert bighorn sheep, deer, black bears, mountain lions and many birds of prey.
The Pollock Canyon trail offers great hiking. The Kokopelli bike trail traverses the area's northern boundary.
