Ben Tyler Trail #606

Ben Tyler Trail #606 is steep in places. It provides access to the summits of the Kenosha Mountains. The trail is named for Ben Tyler who lived with his family in a gulch that bears his name; where he had a lumber operation in the gold rush days, sawing timber and hauling it over the ridge to Fairplay. The foundations of Tyler's cabins can still be seen from the trail.
This trail leads to areas for viewing wildlife, such as elk. The trail follows hillsides of aspen, a golden vista in late September. Visitors can thank Ben Tyler for showing them the way as they hike this spectacular trail.
Major attractions include the numerous and colorful wildflowers in late spring and early summer. The trail also offers great views to the north and south from its high point, and the changing colors in September, particularly in the large aspen groves in Ben Tyler Gulch, are stunning.
This trail has been rated moderate to difficult. Elevation ranges from 10,000 to 11,650 feet on this 11.4-mile trail.
