Beaver Reservoir State Wildlife Area sits high in the headwaters of Minnesota Creek on the western slopes of Mount Gunnison. The road to the site is steep and nearly impassable when it snows.


Facilities: Beaver Reservoir State Wildlife Area provides a small clearing by the lake that makes a nice primitive area to camp.

Best Time To Visit: Beaver Reservoir State Wildlife Area is open year-round.

Fees: There are no fees to enter a State Wildlife Refuge. There are fees to obtain fishing and hunting licenses. Please contact the Denver office for further information.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: Users of wildlife areas are reminded to check current hunting, fishing, and land use regulations when planning to use an area for any purpose.

Directions: To reach Beaver Reservoir State Wildlife Area from Montrose, travel on US Highway 550 to State Highway 92. Take State Highway 92 to State Highway 133. Travel on State Highway 133 to Paonia. From Paonia, go about five miles southeast on 0.50 drive (that is NOT a typo) to Forest Road 710, then follow road through the canyon to the reservoir.

To reach Beaver Reservoir State Wildlife Area from Crested Butte, travel west on Forest Road 12 to State Highway 133. On State Highway 133, travel to Paonia. From Paonia, go about five miles southeast on 0.50 drive (that is NOT a typo) to Forest Road 710, then follow road through the canyon to the reservoir.
