Chico, California is home to the famous Bidwell Park. Chico locals have taken pride in their surrounding wilderness, preserving a large portion of it for Bidwell Park. As the park winds into the foothills, it becomes one of the largest city parks in the country.
Bidwell Park spans more than 3,700 acres and offers extensive hiking, biking and equestrian trails, along with swimming opportunities at One Mile Recreation Area and in Upper Park.
Chico is close to a number or rivers and lakes, perfect for fishing, kayaking and boating. The Sacramento River offers fantastic fishing opportunities, and is located just seven miles east of Chico. For watersports enthusiasts, Lake Oroville offers 15,500 surface acres for recreation, and 167 miles of shoreline. The lake is just 20 minutes south of Chico.
Lake Almanor is just a 90-minute drive away, and offers access to waterskiing, sailing, sailboarding and jetskiing.
