Lake Almanor was created in the early 1900's and is one of California's first hydroelectric power facilities. The reservoir is located mostly on private land and occupies about 24,000 surface acres. Water levels fluctuate depending on runoff and power demand. Water released from the dam drains into the North Fork Feather River. Lake Almanor is known for its smallmouth bass, landlocked salmon, and rainbow/brown trout fisheries.

There is great fishing at Lake Almanor! Game fish present include rainbow and brown trout, large- and small-mouth bass, landlocked chinook salmon (stocked), pumpkinseed, green sunfish, Sacramento perch, channel catfish, brown bullhead

Gear Suggestions: Boat, float tube, or shore fishing. Lures (spinners, spoons, minnow-like lures) or bait, depending on what type of fish you're after. Live or dead fin fish shall not be used or possessed for use as bait.

Directions: To reach Lake Almanor, the best access is through Chester, California. The reservoir is situated on Highway 36 near the town of Chester. Access points are located on Highway 36, Highway 89, and County Road 147.
