Sunset Campground rests on a ponderosa pine covered peninsula high in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada. At an elevation of 4,900 feet, the campground occasionally experiences closure due to snow conditions.
Sunset Campground offers 131 campsites on the shore of Union Valley Reservoir suitable for both tent and RV style camping, not to mention a boat ramp within the grounds.
Union Valley Reservoir itself offers anglers and swimmers ample opportunities to relax in the sparkling water.
Bicyclers are encouraged to experience the Union Valley Bike Trail, a 5.8 mile, paved path connecting several campsites on the shores of Union Valley Reservoir.


Facilities: Sunset Campground has piped drinking water and vault toilets available on the premises. Picnic tables, fire rings, and grills are located throughout the campground.
A dump station is located within the grounds and showers are available in the neighboring Fashoda Campground.

Best Time To Visit: Sunset Campground is open from Memorial Day weekend through September. These dates may be affected by snowfall.

Fees: Camping fees are charged.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: Maximum length of stay is 14 days out of every 30 days. Family pets must be kept on leashes at all times. Campfire restrictions may be put into affect depending on conditions. Maximum length of vehicle is 50 feet.

Bears and other wildlife are in the area. Please keep campsites clean, food properly stored, and dumpsters locked for the safety of the campers and the wildlife.

Directions: To reach Sunset Campground from Sacramento, travel east on Interstate 50 for about 60 miles to Ice House Road (21 miles east of Placerville).

Turn left onto Ice House Road and travel north for approximately 14.5 miles. Turn left at the turn-off for Fashoda/Sunset Campgrounds. Sunset Campground is located less than a mile down the turn-off on the left-hand side of the road.
The parking area is by the boat ramp.

Reservations: Some campsites at Sunset Campground are available through reservation. Unreserved sites are available on a first come, first served basis.
