Devils Postpile National Monument is located in eastern California and varies greatly in elevation. The main attraction at this park is an amazing geological formation that formed by hot lava cooling and cracking some 900,000 years ago to form basalt columns 40 to 60 feet high resembling a giant pipe organ.
The John Muir Trail between Yosemite and Kings Canyon National Park crosses the monument. Established in 1911 by presidential proclamation, Devils Postpile National Monument protects and preserves the Devils Postpile formation, the 101-foot high Rainbow Falls, and pristine mountain scenery. There are many recreational activities here such as fishing, and one camping spot. This park does not have a visitors center.
Enjoy the park!
