Camping In National Forests Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest Some of the most spectacular scenery in the Southwest awaits the forest visitor on the two million acres of the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forests. Elevations range from 3,500 feet in the Upper Sonoran desert life zone covered by prickly pear and yucca to nearly 11,500 feet in the Alpine life zone where you can see beautiful stands of fir and spruce interwoven with lush green meadows. It is open to tents, trailers and motor homes up to 16 feet long. This campground is limited to campers with horses or stock animals. Stray Horse Campground The rustic, campground is set among large pine and oak, and located six miles below the Mogollon Rim. There are 7 single sites available. This campground is for the primitive camper. Buffalo Crossing Campground This campground sits on the East Fork of the Black River, as it meanders through a forested valley, shaded by tall ponderosa pine. There are 16 single sites available. Diamond Rock Campground Situated along side the East Fork of the Black River, the campground is shaded by tall ponderosa pine trees, and bordered by grasses, alder, and streamside hardwoods. Horse Springs Campground Adjacent to the East Fork of the Black River, Horse Springs Campground is situated in a forested valley. There are 27 single sites available. This campground is for those who enjoy camping in a semi-developed area. KP Cienega Campground The KP Cienega Campground is set in a green mountain meadow, surrounded by fir and spruce trees. There are 5 single sites available. This campground is for those who enjoy camping in a semi-developed area. Lower Juan Miller Campground Large gambel oak and sycamore trees shade this campground. There are 4 single sites available. This campground is for those who enjoy camping in a semi-developed area. Luna Lake Campground This campground is located in a relatively open stand of ponderosa pine and is the largest campground on the Alpine District. There are 50 single sites and 3 group sites available. Tents, trailers, and motorhomes up to 32 foot are welcome at Luna Lake Campground. This campground is for those who enjoy camping in a semi-developed area. Rainbow Campground This campground is located among mixed conifer and aspen. There are 152 single sites available. This campground is for those who enjoy camping in a semi-developed area. Trailers and motor homes up to 32 feet are permitted and tents are welcome. South Fork Campground Set along the South Fork of the Little Colorado River, this campground is set among ponderosa pine, with views of the 400-acre forest fire of 1989. There are 12 single sites available tents, trailers and motorhomes. South Fork Campground is not suitable for large RVs. This campground is for those who enjoy camping in a semi-developed area. Winn Campground This campground is in mixed conifer and aspen near Mt. Baldy and the Little Colorado River. It has 63 single sites and 2 group sites.
