Boyer Trail begins at 4,000 feet in elevation and climbs another 2,000 feet. The higher part of this trail is in ponderosa pine forest dispersed with oak, sycamore and other deciduous trees, especially along the waterways. As it drops down in elevation, the plant life changes to brush and chaparral.
The Sierra Ancha Wilderness can be accessed from this trail. Wildlife includes mule and white tail deer, elk, cougar and wild turkey. Lower elevations support javelina, deer and smaller animals and birds. Parts of the trail are steep and rocky and may be difficult in places for horses, but can be traversed with caution.
