Boulder Recreation Site, containing Canyon Lake, is located 15 miles northeast of Apache Junction, at 1,700 feet elevation. Recreation includes camping, picnicking, water-play, and fishing. Present fish species include walleye, largemouth bass, channel catfish, carp, yellow bass, bluegill, green sunfish, and rainbow trout.

Facilities: Picnic tables and vault toilets are provided at Boulder Recreation Site. Services and supplies are available at the Canyon Lake Marina.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted at Boulder Recreation Site.

Best Time To Visit: Boulder Recreation Site is open year round. Between November and March, Arizona Game and Fish department stock the lake on a monthly basis with rainbow trout.

Accessibility: This area is handicap accessible.

Rules: This area is located within the Tonto National Forest; forest regulations apply. No glass containers in the Canyon Lake area. Watercrafts are prohibited.

Directions: To reach Boulder Recreation Site from Apache Junction, travel north on Hwy. 88. Prior to reaching the second bridge on Hwy. 88, turn right into the site. The entire route is paved, but it is narrow, with sharp curves and heavy traffic.
