Upper Tonto Creek Campground sits at the junction of Tonto and Horton Creeks. Upper Tonto Creek Campground has 9 single sites. This campground is for those who enjoy camping in a semi-developed area.

Fishing for trout is available from either of the creeks. A variety of wildlife can be seen in the area.

The trailheads for Horton Creek Trail 285 and Derrick Trail 33 are located in the campground. Both of these trails access the Highline National Recreation Trail (#31). Tonto Fish Hatchery is four miles north of Highway 260 on Forest Road 289.

Facilities: Restrooms and drinking water are provided at Upper Tonto Creek Campground. Campsites have picnic tables, grills, campfire rings, and trash service.

Best Time To Visit: Upper Tonto Creek Campground is open from April through October, weather permitting.

Fees: A nightly camping fee is charged.

Accessibility: This campground provides handicap accessible toilets.

Rules: This campground is located within the Tonto National Forest; forest regulations apply. Maximum length of stay is 14 days.

Directions: To reach Upper Tonto Creek Campground from Payson go East on State Highway 260 for 18 miles to Forest Road 289. Take 289 1 mile to the campground.
