The Mormon Lake/Pinewood Snowmobile Trail System provides approximately 54 miles of designated snowmobile routes south of Flagstaff with four vehicle parking areas at the four trailheads. The trail system is supported through a grant from the Arizona State Parks.
The trail system features Mormon Mountain, an extinct volcano ranging between three and thirteen million years old. The trail also runs near Mormon lake, often the largest natural lake in Arizona. Visitors may find historic sites including remnants of past timber railroads, a dairy and other structures. The trail system is primarily within the ponderosa pine forest and is at an elevation of 6500 to 7500 feet.


Facilities: Mormon Lake/Pinewood Snowmobile Trail System guests can utilize the facilities at Mormon Lake Lodge. The Lodge offers a lodge with restrooms, a cafe, and parking. There is also a small gift shop that provides gas, diesel, winter clothing, and supplies. There is no trash service on the trails. All trash is pack-it-in, pack-it-out.

Best Time To Visit: Open dates depend on snow accumulation, but can be from November to March, depending on snowfall, temperatures. When there is sufficient snow, the area is open daily.

Fees: Fees are charged. Additional fees may be inccured for equipment rentals.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: Be alert for dog sledders, cross country skiers, and other winter sport enthusiasts.
