Black Mesa Trail is located in the Superstition Wilderness Area and has significant cholla groves. There are interesting views of the Superstition Mountain.
This is an easy trail except for the last section, which is rocky and steep in spots. It is 3 miles long and has a moderate rating. Hiking and horseback riding are permitted on this trail.

Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Black Mesa Trail. Gas, food, and lodging can be found in Apache Junction.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted for Black Mesa Trail.

Best Time To Visit: Black Mesa Trail is open year round.

Fees: No fee is charged.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: Neither motorized or mechanized transport are permitted on this trail. The maximum group size is 15; the maximum amount of saddle or pack animals of any kind is 15 per group.

Directions: To reach Black Mesa Trail from Apache Junction, travel 3.5 miles north on State Highway 88 to Forest Road 78 (near Mile Marker 200). Turn right and follow this road 3 miles. Horse-trailers parking are on the left 0.5 miles before reaching the main trailhead. The west end can be reached by traveling north on Second Water Trail to its intersection with Black Mesa Trail. The east end can be reach by traveling east on Dutchman's Trail to its intersection with Black Mesa Trail.
