Soldier Camp Trail traverses the western open ridges below Four Peaks, in the Four Peaks Wilderness Area. The southern half is an old jeep road. There are superb views of the Four Peaks and lower desert country.
This trail is 8 miles long, receives very light use, and has more difficult rating. Hiking and horseback riding are permitted on this trail.


Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Soldier Camp Trail. Gas, food, and lodging can be found in Mesa.

Best Time To Visit: Soldier Camp Trail is open spring through fall, depending on the weather.

Fees: No fee is charged.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: Neither motorized or mechanized transport are permitted on this trail. The maximum group size is 15; the maximum amount of saddle or pack animals of any kind is 15 per group.

Directions: To reach Soldier Camp Trail from Mesa, travel north on State Highway 87. At 11.5 miles north of the Verde River Bridge (and just past the Desert Vista Rest Stop) turn right (east) onto Forest Road 143. Follow Forest Road 143 for 16 miles from State Highway 87. A high-clearance vehicle is recommended. The trailhead is a small pull-off on the south side of the road.
