Sandy Saddle Trail goes on Sandy Saddle in the Mazatzal Wilderness Area. There is a very long grade east of Sandy Saddle.
This trail is 3 miles long and has a moderate rating. Hiking and horseback riding are permitted on this trail.


Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Sandy Saddle Trail. Gas, food, and lodging can be found in Payson.

Rules: Neither motorized or mechanized transport are permitted on this trail. The maximum group size is 15; the maximum amount of saddle or pack animals of any kind is 15 per group.

Directions: To reach Sandy Saddle Trail from Payson, travel southon State Highway 87 (the Beeline Highway) to Forest Road 419 (this turn-off is just before crossing the Rye Creek Bridge, about 1 mile south of the Rye Creek Store). Follow Forest Road 419 for 4.7 miles to the trailhead. Take Barnhardt Trail west to its intersection with Sandy Sadle Trail.
