North Peak Trail is located in the Mazatzal Wilderness Area. It is very steep in the middle and finding the east end can be difficult.
This trail is 3.5 miles long and has a more difficult rating. Hiking and horseback riding are permitted on this trail, but horseback riding is not recommended.


Facilities: North Peak Trail provides horse corrals. Gas, food, and lodging can found in Payson.

Best Time To Visit: North Peak Trail is open spring through fall, depending on the weather.

Fees: No fee is charged.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: Neither motorized or mechanized transport are permitted on this trail. The maximum group size is 15; the maximum amount of saddle or pack animals of any kind is 15 per group.

Directions: To reach North Peak Trail from Payson, travel west on main Street (becomes Forest Road 406) 5 1/2 miles (after turning off State Highway 87) towards the East Verde River. Turn left on Forest Road 3414. Follow this road 6 miles to a parking area and corral.
