Mescal Ridge Trail is an old jeep trail in the Hell's Gate Wilderness Area. An easy trail that works its way south on Mescal Ridge (with superb views of the countryside) to a stock tank located between Tonto Creek and Bull Tank Canyon.
This trail is 3 miles long and has an easy rating. Hiking and horseback riding are permitted on this trail.

Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Mescal Ridge Trail. Gas food and lodging can be found in Payson.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted Mescal Ridge Trail.

Best Time To Visit: Mescal Ridge Trail is open spring through fall, depending on weather.

Fees: No fee is charged.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: Neither motorized or mechanized transport are permitted on this trail. The maximum group size is 15; the maximum amount of saddle or pack animals of any kind is 15 per group.

Directions: To reach Mescal Ridge Trail from Payson, east State Highway 260 for 11.4 miles, turn onto Forest Road 405A for 2.7 miles to the junction with Forest Road 405. Continue straight ahead on Forest Road 405 for 3.2 miles to the trailhead just south of the private land. This road is very steep, and not recommended for two-wheel drive vehicles pulling horse trailers.
