Deer Creek Trail, located in the Mazatzal Wilderness Area, follows the north fork of Deer Creek, subject to heavy flood damage. It is located in a deep canyon.
This trail is 8.5 miles long and has a more difficult rating. Hiking and horseback riding are permitted on this trail, but horseback riding is not recommended.

Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Deer Creek Trail. Gas, food, and lodging can be found in Payson.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted for Deer Creek Trail.

Best Time To Visit: Deer Creek Trail is open spring through fall, depending on the weather.

Fees: No fee is charged.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: Neither motorized or mechanized transport are permitted on this trail. The maximum group size is 15; the maximum amount of saddle or pack animals of any kind is 15 per group. Horseback riding is not recommended for this trail.

Directions: To reach Deer Creek Trail Deer Creek Trailhead from Payson, travel south on State Highway 87, the trailhead is located right off the highway on the right side.

To reach Deer Creek Trail Peeley Trailhead from Payson, travel south on State Highway 87 to the Slate Creek Divide. Turn right (north) up Forest Road 201 for 7 miles to its end. This road gets progressively rougher and may require 4WD. Not recommended for horse-trailers or sedans.
