Brown's Trail, located in the Four Peaks Wilderness Area, was constructed in 1988-89 and is in good condition. Grade, trend, and alignment are favorable. It ends at Brown's Saddle.
This trail is 2 miles long, receives heavy use, and has a more difficult rating. Hiking and horseback riding are permitted.


Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Brown's Trail. Gas, food, and lodging can be found in Mesa.

Best Time To Visit: Brown's Trail is open spring through fall, depending on the weather.

Fees: No fee is charged.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: Neither motorized or mechanized transport are permitted on this trail. The maximum group size is 15; the maximum amount of saddle or pack animals of any kind is 15 per group.

Directions: To reach Brown's Trail from Mesa, travel north on State Highway 87. 11.5 miles north of the Verde River Bridge (and just past the Desert Vista Rest Stop) turn right (east) onto Four Peaks Road 143 (Forest Road 143). Follow Forest Road 143 for 18.8 miles to the El Oso Divide. At this point, take a sharp right turn (south) onto Forest Road 648. Continue 1.3 miles to the trailhead. There is an upper and lower parking lot here. High-clearance vehicles are recommended; this road is generally unsuitable for horses-trailers.
