The maximum number of people per group is 15, 15 is also the maximum number saddle or pack animals of any type allowed on the trail. Directions: To reach Bear Flat Trail Bear Flat Trailhead from Payson, travel east on State Highway 260 for 11.4 miles Turn onto Forest Road 405A for 2.7 miles to the junction with Forest Road 405. Continue straight ahead on Forest Road 405 for 3.2 miles to the trailhead just south of the private land. This road is very steep, and not recommended for two-wheel drive vehicles pulling horse trailers. The Bear Flat Trail begins across the creek near the private land. To reach Bear Flat Trail Gordon Canyon Trailhead from Payson, travel east State Highway 260 for 23 miles (3 miles past Christopher Creek), and turn right on Forest Road 291. Continue down Forest Road 291 for 3.5 miles until reaching Forest Road 200. Follow Road 200, 5.8 miles to the trailhead. The east end of the Bear Flat Trail begins here. | |
