Deadman Mesa Trail is located in the Mazatzal Wilderness Area, and can be rocky and very steep. The portions of the trail that are in Fossil Creek may be washed out.
This trail is 4.1 miles long and has a difficult rating. Hiking and horseback riding are permitted on this trail, but horseback riding is not recommended.


Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Deadman Mesa Trail. Gas food, and lodging can be found in Payson.

Best Time To Visit: Deadman Mesa Trail is open spring through fall, depending on the weather.

Fees: No fee is charged.

Accessibility: Unknown

Rules: Neither motorized or mechanized transport are permitted on this trail. The maximum group size is 15; the maximum amount of saddle or pack animals of any kind is 15 per group. Horseback riding is not recommended on this trail.

Directions: To reach Deadman Mesa Trail from Payson, travel north on State Highway 87 for 19 miles to Strawberry. Turn left at the Strawberry Lodge on Forest Road 428 for 7 1/2 miles; turn left (south) on Forest Road 491 (4WD Vehicle is required). Drive 6 slow miles to the trailhead.
