Squirrel Springs Recreation Area is located within a forest just outside Greer. The trails in this system generally were all old logging roads. This area has a total of 14 miles of trails, each individual trail varies in length, terrain, and difficulty. If staying at either Benny Creek Campground or Rolfe C. Hoyer Campground, this trail system is a great place to take a quiet walk in the woods.
Type of use depends on the season and weather. In spring, summer, and fall when there is little to no snow on the ground this area can be used by mountain bikers, horseback riders, and hikers. Alternately in fall, winter, and spring when there is snow on the ground this area is used by cross country skiers and snow shoers.


Facilities: There are restrooms, a picnic table, barbeque and parking available at Squirrel Springs Recreation Area. There is no potable water or trash cans. Two campgrounds are located nearby. Gas, lodging, and food can be found in Greer and Springerville.

Best Time To Visit: Squirrel Springs Recreation Area is open year round, depending on weather. Seasons dictate use type.

Fees: No fees are charged.

Accessibility: There is an accessible picnic area with table and barbeque and accessible restrooms. There is also reserved parking.

Rules: Remember trail etiquette.

Directions: To reach Squirrel Springs Recreation Area from Springerville, travel west on State Highway 260 to State Highway 373. Take State Highway 373 south for about 2 miles. The trailhead is on the right.
