Four Springs Trail connects Los Burros Trail to the Land of the Pioneers Trail. This trail strolls around 4 springs (Brown Spring, Eben Spring, Dipping Vat Spring, and Mud Spring) and Hidden Lake. Dipping Vat Spring is the location of a historic sheep camp. Remains of the dipping vat can be found in the meadow to the north of spring.

Several outstanding views of the White Mountains can be seen from the spur trail to Lake Mountain. Portions of this trail are extremely steep. Elevations range from 8500 feet on top of Lake Mountain to 7500 feet near Mud Spring. The "lake" on top of Lake Mountain is a natural depression on the east side of the mountain. The lake is ephemeral, filling with water from the snowmelt and during summer monsoons.

There is a short, steep spur up to the lookout tower. There is an additional access from the lookout tower down to the Four Springs Trail. The lookout tower on top of Lake Mountain was built in 1932. The ponderosa pine tree across from the tower was used as the lookout between 1912 and 1932. The tower is still used and open to the public during June and July.

This trail is 9 miles long and been rated difficult for cyclists and hikers, but moderate for horseback riders. Horseback riders, hikers, and mountain bikers may use this trail.

Facilities: There are no facilities provided at Four Springs Trail. Gas, lodging, and food can be found in Pinetop-Lakeside.

Reservations: Reservations are not needed or accepted at Four Springs Trail.

Best Time To Visit: Four Springs Trail is open late spring to late fall.

Directions: To reach Four Springs Trail Los Burros Trailhead from Show Low, travel south on State Highway 260 to McNary. In McNary, turn left on Forest Road 224, following signs to Vernon. Drive 8 miles until road signs direct you to turn right into Los Burros Campground. Drive to the far end of the campground to find the trailhead.

To reach Four Springs Trail Land of the Pioneers Trailhead from Show Low, travel east on State Highway 60 for 19 miles. Turn south on Forest Road 224 (through Vernon) for 5 miles, then west on Forest Road 5. The trailhead is on the right.
