Black Hawk Loop Campground, located at Dead Horse Ranch State Park, offers 17 campsites. The campground roads are paved and each campsite is offers a raised, level tent pad.
The campground is not wooded at all so there is no shade. The spaces are far enough apart to give campers plenty of space. There are great views of the Mingus Mountains and the rest of the park. In addition there are two trailheads that are near the campground.
Multiple use trails provide access to the Verde River, a four-acre fishing lagoon, stocked periodically, and the Coconino National Forest are within close range.


Facilities: Dead Horse Ranch State Park offers modern restroom facilities with hot water showers, large ramada, and group fire ring in the group campground, horse corrals, trailheads that connect to miles of developed trails.
Black Hawk Loop Campground offers tables, fire rings, barbeques, as well as shared water and trash near at each developed tent pad campsite. Showers, restrooms and a phone are located nearby.

Best Time To Visit: The park is open 365 days a year. The Ranger Station opens daily at 8:00 a.m. except on Christmas Day. To extend the camping stay at Black Hawk Loop Campground register by 11 am. Checkout time is 2 pm. Please check out at the Ranger Station when vacating a campsite. Day use hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily.

Fees: Day use and camping fees are charged.

Accessibility: The park is accessible with restrooms, showers, fishing piers, and trails.

Rules: Only tents are permitted in this campground.

When leaving a campsite unattended, please do something to demonstrate occupancy. Pets must be kept on leash and may not be left unattended. Clean up after pets. Pets are not permitted in park buildings or ramadas.
Quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Generators are prohibited in campgrounds where electric is available. Park stay is limited to 15 days in a 30 day period. Vehicles must be parked on the paved surface within each designated site. Grey water must be contained. R.V. and vehicle washing is prohibited in the park.

Directions: To reach Black Hawk Loop Campground from I-17 take (exit 287) Hwy 260 to Cottonwood. Hwy. 260 intersects with 89A/Main Street. Turn left on Main Street and proceed to North 10th Street. Turn right (north) on North 10th Street. Continue on North 10th across the Verde River Bridge to the park entrance.

Reservations: For the group campground there is a non-refundable reservation fee. Day use areas are also available to be reserved. Reservations are taken no more than 12 months in advance. A minimum of 10 vehicles are required to qualify as a group for the campground. A minimum of five vehicles are required to qualify as a group for the day use areas.

All camping sites are on a first-come, first-serve basis at Black Hawk Loop Campground, and the sites are open year-round. We do not take reservations for camping sites.
