The Boynton Canyon Trail #47 leads through one of the prettiest box canyons in Arizona's "Red Rock Country" and is easily accessed. Thus, the area often attracts too many hikers; those seeking solitude go elsewhere.

The trail begins at the signed trailhead by the parking area and immediately enters the Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness Area. At 50 yards, there is a signed trail junction. The main trail continues ahead, skirting Enchantment Resort while hugging the sheer cliffs of the canyon's east side. The trail is rocky in places but mostly level and partially shaded. At 0.5 miles, the trail jogs away from the cliffs and moves up the easy grade of the canyon floor, offering little shade but nice views.

At 1.5 miles, it bends left (west), enters a side canyon, and begins a gradual climb. Stands of mixed conifer offer shade, but obscure much of the view.

This trail permits hiking only. At 2.5 miles and an elevation change of only 450 feet, this trail is considered easy.

Reservations: Boynton Canyon Trail #47 does not require or accept reservations.

Rules: A Red Rock Parking Pass is required. Leashed pets allowed. No camping permitted.

Directions: To reach Boynton Canyon Trail #47 from the junction of Highways 89A and 179 in Sedona, take 89A west 3.2 miles to Dry Creek Road on the right. Go 2.9 miles to a "T", then left on Boynton Pass Road for 1.6 miles to another "T". Turn right and go 0.2 miles to the trailhead parking area on the right. The trailhead is just outside the entrance to the Enchantment Resort.
