Barbershop Trail #91 gets it's name from a sheepherder who once lived in the area and clipped his fellow herder's hair, as well as his sheep. The trail meanders though a pleasant region of loose-knit pine forests and the shallow Barbershop, Dane, and Yeager canyons making it an excellent place to enjoy a woodland stroll or a weekend backpack.
The path rolls in and out of the canyons on a pleasant grade, past forests of ponderosa pines on the dry hillsides and pine forests deeper into the canyons, and into stands of hardwoods on the canyon bottoms. Small meadows provide visual relief from the wooded areas with colorful shows of wildflowers in the monsoon season. Limestone cliffs make scenic geological shows. Some have mollusk fossils embedded in them.
The high proportion of deciduous trees makes this trail an especially colorful place in the fall, but there's plenty of wildlife to see at all seasons of the year. Watch for wild turkey, mule deer and elk. There are black bear in the area too, but they're much harder to see.
At a length of 4.5 miles and an elevation change of only 100 feet, this trail is considered easy to moderate. Accepted uses for this trail include hiking, horseback riding, and biking.
