Abert Nature Trail 3

Abert Nature Trail 3 is an interpretive loop trail in the pines, beginning and ending at the Ponderosa Campground. The trail has numbered signs that correspond with a brochure describing the various flora and fauna found in the area. During the summer, the brochure is available at the campground. It is also available year-round at the Payson Ranger District office.
With a length of 1.3 miles and an elevation change of about 270 feet, this is considered an easy hike. Hikers and equestrians are permitted to use this trail.

Facilities: Abert Nature Trail 3 offers a parking area, restrooms, and a campground.

Reservations: Abert Nature Trail 3 does not require or accept reservations.

Best Time To Visit: Abert Nature Trail 3 is open year-round.

Fees: No fees are charged to use this trail.

Accessibility: This trail is handicapped-accessible, with a compacted natural tread, and less than 10 percent slope.

Rules: Pets must be on a leash.

Directions: To reach Abert Nature Trail 3 from Payson: Take Highway 260 13 miles northeast to Ponderosa Campground.
