Towel Creek Trail #67 leads through an area of picturesque buttes and low, bluffy mountains unique in Coconino National Forest. From the trailhead, the trail crosses a drainage and heads left along the hillside. Before reaching Towel Tank, the trail offers fine views of the Mogollon Rim, Fossil Creek Canyon and Deadman Mesa. From Towel Tank, the trail follows Towel Creek.
About 3 miles from the trailhead, a short spur trail leads to Towel Spring. After the trail crosses to the north side of Towel Creek, it becomes indistinct for 0.5 miles before crossing back to the creek's south side. Look for rock cairns that mark the trail or walk in the creek bottom until the trail crossing. Once back on the creek's south side, the trail becomes more distinct as it continues on a long descent to the Verde River. With a length of 6.4 miles and total elevation change of 950 feet, the trail offers a hike of moderate difficulty.
