Slide Rock Route is a short trail of 0.3 miles with a total elevation change of only 40 feet, making this primitive route along Oak Creek a fairly easy hike. It is the main access to popular Slide Rock Swim Area, which features a natural waterslide. The trail begins near the Apple Packing Barn at the historic Pendley Homestead of Slide Rock State Park. It descends to the creek via steps, then crosses the creek on a small footbridge.

During periods of high runoff, the footbridge will not be in place and visitors will need to stay on the creek's west side. After crossing the footbridge, the route proceeds north along the sandstone shelves to the swim area. For most visitors, an 8-foot-high wall beyond the swim area is the turn-around point. Beyond the wall, the increasingly faint trail leads to remote areas upstream. Trout fishing is generally good in the pools under the highway bridge.

Rules: Daytime use only. No pets or glass containers allowed. Trail users should practice Leave No Trace techniques.

Directions: To reach Slide Rock Route from Sedona, take Highway 89A north 7 miles to Slide Rock State Park. From parking area, take Pendley Homestead Trail 0.25 miles north to Slide Rock Route.
