North Wilson Mountain Trail #123 climbs beside Hwy. 89A a short distance before turning west into a side canyon with a good view of Oak Creek Canyon. The trail enters Red Rock-Secret Mountain Wilderness and climbs moderately in the shade of a mixed forest. Approaching the sheer wall of Wilson Mountain, it turns south overlooking the side canyon.
At 0.75 miles, the trail begins a steep, one-half-mile switchback ascent of the First Bench, with nice views through breaks in the trees. The trail then heads south, climbing over basalt cobbles for one-quarter mile before topping out. It crosses the open expanse of the First Bench for one-half mile, offering great views to the north, east and west. The trail ends at the cairns where it meets Wilson Mountain Trail.
North Wilson Mountain Trail #123 is a relatively short 2 miles, but its total elevation change of 1,400 feet and occasionally rough terrain make this a somewhat difficult hike.
