Casner Canyon Trail #11 was probably built originally by the Casner family around 1878 to move cattle between the valley and the rim of Oak Creek Canyon. It offers nice views but little shade, and is hot in the summer.
The path follows the closed dirt road for 75 feet, then turns to the left for 250 feet to the small metal Casner Canyon Trailhead sign, which is easy to miss. It then crosses the boulders of the flood plain about 50 yards ahead. Hikers will need to wade the creek to the notch in the opposite bank, where a dry creek bed enters Oak Creek. Then, pick up the trail on the right side of the notch. It follows the dry creek bed for 0.25 miles before crossing it to begin a steady, moderately steep climb toward Oak Creek Canyon's rim. At 1.75 miles, the trail bends into a steep, narrow canyon, passes through a cattle gate, and emerges on top of Schnebly Hill. Total change of elevation is 1,500 feet.
