Best Time To Visit: The Salt River Canyon Wilderness Area can be visited practically any time, however mandatory visitor permits are required between March 1 and May 15. The application for these permits is December 1 through January 31 each year. Fees: Some permits may be needed to enjoy your trip to the Salt River Canyon Wilderness Area. Accessibility: This area is not handicap accessible. Rules: Motorized equipment and mechanized transport are prohibited in the Salt River Canyon Wilderness Area. Directions: To reach the Salt River Canyon Wilderness Area from Globe take Highway 88 north to Young Highway (288) and a few miles after crossing the Salt River take the Cherry Creek Road exit east.
